The Ecovillage Networks in Europe

Our organisation has promoted the creation of national ecovillage networks in every country in Europe. Before the creation of GEN-Europe, only two national networks existed: the German “Come Together” and the Danish Network of Sustainable Communities. Today there are 15 networks and contacts, mainly in Western Europe, most of which have emerged as a result of encouragement, inspiration and support from GEN-Europe.

The national networks meet at least once per year. Some of these are organised as associations, others meet informally. They set their work programmes according to the needs that emerge from among the members. National network contacts persons can often give more information about the latest developments and activities than can the GEN-Europe secretariat.

The latest addition to the family of ecovillages is a new network in Senegal. We hope also to celebrate the creation of an ecovillage network in Russia this summer.
