History

GEN-Europe was founded in 1995 to assist the development of ecovillages and national ecovillage networks. In 1996 a first informal meeting was held and it was decided that GEN-Europe should become a registered association with aims to support development of ecovillages and exchange of information among ecovillage projects. Seat of the organisation was Lebensgarten, Germany with Declan Kennedy and Agnieszka Komoch as staff.

In 1998 GEN-Europe was officially registered as an association and the first official assembly of members was held in Torri Superiore, Italy. The first council was elected (as Council members in 1998-2000 have served: Silke Hagmaier, Lucilla Borio, Tomas Sejersen, Demet Irkli, Agnieszka Komoch, Declan Kennedy).

In 1999 the GEN-Europe office was moved to Torri Superiore and Lucilla Borio took on the administration.

2000 Second assembly of members in Lakabe, Spain (see photos). A new council was elected composed of: Lepre Viola, Jean Michel Pochat, Lucilla Borio, Agnieszka Komoch and Mete Hacaloglu.

2001 GEN-Europe received a grant from the European Comission Directorate General of Environment (see photos) which was celebrated at the assembly of members in Poland, the community of Wolimierz (see photos)
